Rates Explained

We know that home insurance rates can be tricky to understand. So the more you know about it, the easier it will be to make an informed decision.

For starters, home insurance comes with two types of payments:
Premiums – what you pay to have the insurance coverage
Deductibles – what you pay if you have to make a claim

So how is your premium calculated? Well, it depends mostly on the building itself. Things that are taken into consideration include:

  • Location
  • Its age and size
  • Type of building (detached, semi, high rise, etc.)
  • Type of construction (brick, stucco, wood, etc.)
  • Type of heating system
  • How close it is to a fire hydrant or fire station
