Doesn't my provincial health insurance plan cover me when I travel?

For the most part, no. Provincial health plans are designed to care for you at home, not when you travel. If you get sick or injured while you're away, your out-of-pocket medical expenses could add up to thousands of dollars. That's why travel medical insurance is such a good idea. Before you leave your home province, check with your provincial Ministry of Health to see what's covered.

Do I need travel insurance for a quick cross-border trip to the U.S.?

Accidents can happen even if you're only away for one day. With PC Financial™ travel insurance you can choose the low-cost medical plan for short trips so you can enjoy your time away without worry.

If I have an accident while travelling outside of the country, will I have to pay those enormous medical bills out of pocket?

With PC Financial travel insurance, wherever possible, all eligible expences will be paid on your behalf.

What affects the cost of travel insurance?

The cost of travel insurance is based on the coverage you choose, your age, the duration and cost of your trip, and in some cases, your medical health. Remember to include the day you're leaving and the day you will return when counting how many days you will be away.

What is a pre-existing condition?

A pre-existing condition is any medical condition, including any heart or lung condition, that exists before your departure for which you have been treated, prescribed medication, shown symptoms for, had test results showing deterioration or a medical investigation whether or not a diagnosis has been given, hospitalization, or referral to a specialist.

Check your Confirmation of Insurance to determine what Pre-existing Condition Exclusion applies to you. Your Policy Terms and Conditions will provide all the details on all the conditions, limits, exclusions, and terms.

Can I still get travel insurance if I have a pre-existing condition?

With PC Financial travel insurance, if you are aged 59 and under, your medical condition must be stable and controlled for 90 days prior to departure to be eligible for medical coverage, and for the 90 days prior to your policy purchase date to be eligible for cancellation coverage, if applicable. For all plans that require a medical questionnaire, you will be provided a specific Pre-existing Condition Exclusion on your Confirmation of Insurance. Your Policy Terms and Conditions will provide all the details on all the conditions, limits, exclusions, and terms.

Do my children have to be insured separately?

If you purchase any medical or comprehensive coverage, emergency medical insurance coverage is included FREE for up to 2 of your dependent children or your grandchildren under the age of 12 for each covered adult. If you purchase medical coverage, you can also choose family option coverage. If you want non-medical coverage to insure the value of your child's trip and baggage, that coverage must be purchased separately through the Trip Cancellation & Baggage Plan.

Do I have to purchase travel insurance at the same time as I book my trip?
Travel insurance with a trip cancellation component must be purchased before the final payment of your trip. Travel medical coverage can be purchased right up to the time before you leave.

Will travel insurance cover my expenses if I must return home because of an emergency?

Trip cancellation and interruption insurance reimburses you if you have to return suddenly from your trip, or cancel your trip altogether before departure for a covered reason.

Can I purchase travel insurance if I'm already on holiday?

No, travel insurance can be purchased right up to the day you leave.

What if I decide to extend my trip?

You must extend your travel insurance. Just remember to top up your PC Financial travel insurance coverage before the original policy expiry date. Simply call the 24/7 customer service number 1-866-283-9233.
